KU, SGS inks MoU to initiate OBE in academia

The University of Karachi and SGS Pakistan Private Limited inked the Memorandum of Understanding to bridge the gap between academia and the industries by initiating outcome-based education in the higher education sector.
According to the MoU signed on Monday at the SGS Head Office, both parties have agreed to promote collaboration for research and development in the broad field of agricultural, mineral, environmental, oil, gas, and chemical, and help to mitigate risks, expedite workflow and assure quality standards.
The University of Karachi and SGS would conduct joint seminars and exhibitions, research work, energy conservation, educational training, and also agreed to share lab facilities and equipment.
As per the MoU, SGS would offer purpose-built internships to students. SGS may offer financial assistance to research project teams and exchange of expertise and know-how of best practices/strategies to enhance operational efficiency, advance gas metering, environment protection, and total quality management.
The Managing Director SGS Abdul Razzak Lakhani briefed the visitors that the common objective of the MoU is to foster multi-disciplinary research activities for the socio-economic development of Pakistan and the mutual interests of each other.
He shared that this MoU will help in engaging both parties in the research and development of projects by utilizing the resources and capabilities of both organizations for mutual interests.
The KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi informed the SGS management that recently the varsity’s Academic Council has approved the establishment of the academia-industrial advisory board at the departmental level to bridge the gap between the industries and higher education sector. He mentioned that five faculty members and five members from the relevant industries would be part of the board as the KU has been working on making changes in its syllabus as per the need of the hour.
He observed that this MoU will help in defining future collaborative research projects, studies, developments, proposals of mutual interests, based on the consents of the members. The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi and the MD SGS Abdul Razzak Lakhani signed the MoU documents.
