SSGC, SNGPL To Enhance Capacity Production of Meters Manufacturing

The managements of Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company decided to stressed upon working in unison to improve the Plant’s manufacturing capacity, add new product lines and introduce new assembly lines to maximize product localization and thus develop employment opportunities in the country and in addition, save valuable foreign exchange through localization.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SSGC and SNGPL for jointly exploring opportunities for improving business sustainability, efficiency and productivity of Meter Manufacturing Plant (MMP) located in SSGC, Karachi. Ali J. Hamdani, MD, SNGPL and Imran Maniar, MD, SSGC inked the MoU at a simple ceremony held at the latter’s Head Office today. The MoU pledges to Initiate a detailed technical, financial, commercial, legal and regulatory due-diligence of MMP owned by SSGC through the services of a Transaction Advisory firm with the objective to decide on a prospective joint venture arrangement with SSGC regarding the meter plant.
Over 9 million households in Pakistan benefit from the grid-supplied natural gas as fuel for catering to the domestic requirements. Gas meters are vital devices, enabling accurate sales gas registration and billing.
With the objective of reducing dependence on imports and enhancing self-reliance, SSGC established Pakistan’s first and the only meter manufacturing plant in 1974 to enable production of gas meters within the country for utilization by both SSGC and SNGPL. Today, SSGC’s meter plant is a state-of-the-art, vertically integrated, full-scale manufacturing facility with in-house capabilities like machining, plastic moulding, assembling, robot-assisted painting, testing and calibration, while acting as a source of income for around 10,000 Pakistani citizens. MMP produces two models of gas meters for residential installations with an extendable existing cumulative production capacity of over 1 million (based on single shift) units per annum.
